How Would You Have Reacted?
The video is a perfect example of the ultimate team player. First watch the video, then answer the questions below.
I was completely focused on my daughter and not the team. Yes, Mr. Perfect Coach was in the wrong.
I'll go first: Several years ago my daughter was pulled off the field and out of the batting line up in a "big game" during the travel softball season. I did not handle it well, because I was completely focused on my daughter and not the team. Yes, Mr. Perfect Coach was in the wrong. Although it did not happen often over the years, I slowly learned to accept the coaches decisions whether I agreed with them or not. I also began thinking a lot more of the other girl's and their parents and how they were feeling about playing time and those situations. I saw the light.
Girls: Watch this entire 4 minute video from the College World Series in 2009 and ask yourself, "How would you have reacted to being pulled in that situation of that game?" And then think about your season. What if that happens to you in any game? Or in the League Championship game? Districts? There aren't enough words in my vocabulary to describe how awesome coaches like me believe this video is. After you watch this, ask yourself, "What kind of teammate are you going to be?"
Parents: What will your reaction be when this happens in the spring to your daughter? Are you the ultimate team parent? It's ok to be honest. Besides, you're just talking to yourself right now ;-)
